Other things on my mind

Sorry for not posting in a while. Things have been crazy, and after talking with both couples and past couples, I think we can all agree that campaigning for this silly thing is beyond exhausting. Addison and I’ve been meaning to campaign more in the library with our candy all week and today would be the first time that would be possible schedule-wise.

However, we’re going to do something different tonight. We’re going to the store to fill our box for Operation Christmas Child. For those of you who don’t know what that is, it’s an organization that collects shoe boxes full of treats, toys, school supplies and hygiene products to send to kids all over the world. Addison and I had both talked about doing an Angel Tree child that they usually have posted at Student Union this year, but when our church talked about it Sunday and how they were hoping to collect 1100 boxes in a week, we both didn’t even have to look at each other to know that’s what we were going to do for Christmas.

We’re busy people and this week has been crazy, so there’s hasn’t been much time. So when the choices came down to campaign for votes tonight or do this, we both knew that we had to take a break from this competition and focus on what’s actually important in life.

I’m not going to lie. I really do want to win this competition. But it’s not everything. Sure, it would be a complete blessing, but I refuse to obsess over something that 1) may not even work out and 2) in the end, doesn’t mean anything.

After all, it’s not the ring that makes the marriage last forever. It’s just a symbol. I’m sure a Cracker Jack ring could accomplish that job just the same.
